10 ELOPEMENT & INTIMATE WEDDING IDEAS IN THE UK & IRELAND.
ISLE OF SKYE, SCOTLAND
If you've not been to the white sandy beaches of Arisaig on the West Coast of Scotland, book a trip for as soon as you can. Well, maybe wait until the slightly warmer summer months, but definitely get yourself over there ASAP.
There's something about that whole area that makes you feel very far from home, in a good way. From the views of the islands across the water, to the Caribbean like turquoise blue seas, to the Glenfinnan Viaduct on which you can see the Harry Potter steam train zipping over.
There are a few different options for getting married here, but there is one place that would be an unforgettable setting for a wedding: and that is Camusdarach Beach.
If you're looking for easy access to different areas of the beach as well as basic facilities (like toilets) then for a small fee the owners of the campsite next to the beach (Camusdarach Campsite) can help you organise this.
You could also hire the stunning Driftwood House which looks directly onto the beach, perfect for a small wedding or elopement. Check out a similar wedding captured by the talented Trevor at Silver Photography here.
There are quite a few modern build cottages dotted around Arisaig as well as friendly B&B's to house the rest of your guests too.
For those seeking an intimate and romantic wedding, why not elope with those closest to you to The Roulotte Retreat - the only place in UK with a collection of French hand carved Roulottes.
Although it may feel like you are surrounded by the French countryside, Roulotte Retreat is in the heart of the Scottish Borders, accommodating up to 22 guests on site. Think wildflower meadows, mini lochs, alfresco dining and fire pits. In their words, think "Eco Chic Romantique!"
Create a magical ceremony in the woodland surrounded by fairy lights and Moroccan lanterns. Then gather round the wood burning stove inside their 1950's Studio for a cosy reception.
If you're looking for an alternative wedding venue then this Retreat is a great choice, plus just think of the stunning pictures & video you could get at this unique boutique wedding venue!

If you're looking for a rustic venue for your wedding, that you can decorate with homemade bunting & delicate flowers until your heart's content, then look no further than the Tin Shed at Knochraich Farm.
A re-purposed tin shed on a working dairy farm, this venue has spaces indoors & outdoors (in the stunning Kitchen Garden surrounded by an orchard, no less).
Comfortably seating 100 guests for dining and a maximum of 130 guests for dancing, there is a licensed bar and ample space for live music. You're free to bring in whichever caterers you'd like, and won't want to miss out on the farm's homemade ice cream!
Located a 50 minute drive North of Glasgow, The Tin Shed also has a few apartments available to hire on site.
If you're looking for total luxury but in a traditional Scottish setting, then Glenapp Castle is the one for you. Set amongst acres of perfectly manicured private grounds, this castle is a 5 star hotel with a range of beautiful spaces available to host you and your guests.
You can create your own elopement celebration, with a ceremony either outside amongst the flowers or in the castle library.
And if good quality food & drink are high up on your priority list, then Glenapp should be a serious contender; with a 5-course meal available for your reception.
We shot the intimate wedding of Amy & Nathan at Glenapp, who eloped to Scotland from America with only their closest family members. The history & elegance of the castle was the perfect romantic setting - watch our video above to see for yourself.
The Barn at Barra Castle is relatively new on the Scottish wedding venue scene. Its perfect mix of modern design and rustic charm is a welcome addition.
It's a versatile space and can accommodate everything from the ceremony, to the dining & dancing, comfortably seating up to 300 guests.
The views over Bennachie from the wall of windows are spectacular, as are photos taken of the bride & groom in the fields just outside.
If you're planning a DIY wedding, you could decorate this barn with all of your own unique little details until your heart is content.
If that wasn't enough to sway you, check out all the happy couple's reviews on their Facebook page (oh and there's no corkage charge)!
Nantwen can be found in the middle of Pembrokeshire's National Park, surrounded by open meadows and a wooded valley. We can almost hear the birds chirping and the gentle breeze blowing from here.
Hosting from 2 to 30 guests, this venue provides an array of options for your wedding. From a "Tiddly Pop Wedding" for you and 8 guests with afternoon tea, to a "Runaway Wedding with Friends"
featuring cosy tipi tents in wild gardens for your friends and a luxurious cottage for the newlyweds.
Their team can help with all aspects and recommend local suppliers for flowers, hair & make up etc.
A really intimate and beautiful setting, Nantwen is perfect for those wanting to escape to nature & have a bit of an adventure for their wedding.
THE LOST ORANGERY.
I mean, I don't think I could say anything to compliment this venue that this photo doesn't already convey. Yes, this really is in the UK! How stunningly magical does it look?!
Based in the Cotswolds no less, Euridge House & Orangery has so many options for your wedding day. With up to 6 locations for your ceremony,
The venue is described as a 'blank canvas' venue as you can completely coordinate the decor, however the owner, Kika White, is an experienced event planner and florist by trade if you'd like a hand in bringing your ideas to life.
There's accommodation on site in more converted buildings that can sleep up to 11 people. Oh and... "Breakfast is included, with the eggs coming from the estates chickens and the bacon from their own reared stock." Sign us up!
Like it's been transported straight out of a Wes Anderson film, the cute little Shepherd's Hut at Aswanly is ideal for those looking for a more rural and laidback elopement. On a remote Scottish hilltop in Aberdeenshire, with a wood burning stove and rustic interiors, you can truly feel at one with nature here.
Aswanly have also, very handily, thought of everything you might need for your elopement - from acquiring witnesses to separate transportation to the hut for the groom & guests/bride.
There's the option for just the two of you or it can host up to 8 people in total, so lots of room for a photographer or videographer too...
Then they can arrange a relaxed and intimate champagne reception overlooking the hills after you've said your "I do's".
Oh and there's onsite accommodation too at Jocky Milne's Croft (could it be any more Scottish?!) for you to relax in afterwards. *sigh* Absolutely perfect.
HARVEST MOON WEDDINGS.
If you're a hippy/nature lover like me, then you'll agree there's nothing like a refreshing Scottish sea breeze to transport you away to your happy place. At Harvest Moon in East Lothian, you only have to travel 45 minutes from Edinburgh for said experience.
Here you have 2 options for your ceremony; get married (barefoot?) on the white sandy beach or amongst their magical treehouse site with views of Bass Rock.
If you're planning a weekend celebration then this venue is ideal as your guests can be accommodated in their spectacular treehouses or luxury tents for the full weekend. Not to forget about the Arabian Nights themed honeymoon tent complete with 4-poster bed!
This is a wedding venue where you can truly create some unique memories and cherish spending quality time with your friends and family.
