15 UNUSUAL WEDDING VENUES IN SCOTLAND.

CAMUSDARACH BEACH.

ARISAIG

If you've not been to the white sandy beaches of Arisaig on the West Coast of Scotland, book a trip for as soon as you can. Well, maybe wait until the slightly warmer summer months, but definitely get yourself over there ASAP.

There's something about that whole area that makes you feel very far from home, in a good way. From the views of the islands across the water, to the Caribbean like turquoise blue seas, to the Glenfinnan Viaduct on which you can see the Harry Potter steam train zipping over.

There are a few different options for getting married here, but there is one place that would be an unforgettable setting for a wedding: and that is Camusdarach Beach.

If you're looking for easy access to different areas of the beach as well as basic facilities (like toilets) then for a small fee the owners of the campsite next to the beach (Camusdarach Campsite) can help you organise this.

You could also hire the stunning Driftwood House which looks directly onto the beach, perfect for a small wedding or elopement. Check out a similar wedding captured by the talented Trevor at Silver Photography here.

There are quite a few modern build cottages dotted around Arisaig as well as friendly B&B's to house the rest of your guests too.

For those seeking an intimate and romantic wedding, why not elope with those closest to you to The Roulotte Retreat - the only place in UK with a collection of French hand carved Roulottes.

Although it may feel like you are surrounded by the French countryside, Roulotte Retreat is in the heart of the Scottish Borders, accommodating up to 22 guests on site. Think wildflower meadows, mini lochs, alfresco dining and fire pits. In their words, think "Eco Chic Romantique!"

Create a magical ceremony in the woodland surrounded by fairy lights and Moroccan lanterns. Then gather round the wood burning stove inside their 1950's Studio for a cosy reception.

If you're looking for an alternative wedding venue then this Retreat is a great choice, plus just think of the stunning pictures & video you could get at this unique boutique wedding venue!

There's also a private garden is the perfect space for mingling in between ceremony & dinner with a glass of wine as well as a beautiful backdrop for photos & video.

Although there's been a few styled shoots, there have only been a limited number of real weddings at this venue so far, so it seems like it could be a truly unique venue to host your big day. And it's in the city centre of Glasgow so your guests can easily get there and stay nearby - win win.

The views over Bennachie from the wall of windows are spectacular, as are photos taken of the bride & groom in the fields just outside.

THE BARN AT HARBURN.

WEST LOTHIAN

The Barn at Harburn is unlike any barn we've ever seen - consisting of a converted 250 year old roundhouse, originally used as a mill, and a granary. The rustic buildings and lush, landscaped gardens make for amazing backdrops.

You can decorate the venue however you like and have the option to hire the barn as "venue only" meaning you can choose your own suppliers, including caterers. You have access from 2pm the day before until 12pm the day after which is great for taking pressure away from your big day.

The venue is described as a 'blank canvas' venue as you can completely coordinate the decor, however the owner, Kika White, is an experienced event planner and florist by trade if you'd like a hand in bringing your ideas to life.

There's accommodation on site in more converted buildings that can sleep up to 11 people. Oh and... "Breakfast is included, with the eggs coming from the estates chickens and the bacon from their own reared stock." Sign us up!

THE COACH HOUSE.

KINROSS HOUSE

This room! If you're looking to impress your guests with your wedding venue then look no further than The Coach House. A bit of a hidden gem, it was only transformed into the luxurious events space within Kinross House in 2016. Its Baronial dining hall has grand Egyptian blue walls & hand-painted ceilings to make your guests feel rather distinguished.

Then there's the tartan library bar with split mezzanine level seating & picturesque courtyard for relaxing in over a drink or two, and a walled kitchen garden to saunter through and pose for a picture.

With 11 en-suite bedrooms as well as amazing spa facilities just next door, your whole wedding party can dine, celebrate and relax all in the one place.

Not to forget to mention the stunning grounds available for photographs or video that surround the House, its a place of outstanding natural beauty.

ST LUKES.

GLASGOW

If you're looking for a party wedding venue then this is the place. When not hosting weddings, it has a whole host of great bands on it's stage; meaning you're live wedding band are going to sound great and you're guests are going to want to get up and dance all night under the huge disco ball.

The old church venue is also steeped in history. Dating back to the 1800’s, "it's high vaulted ceilings... bespoke pipe organ display and beautiful stained glass windows" all provide a stunning setting for your wedding.

It's also a great all in one venue, as it includes an upstairs space for your guests to mingle whilst the changeover from ceremony to reception takes place.

You're in good hands at St Lukes, as it comes with an amazing planner and team of staff to make sure your wedding day runs to perfection. Not forgetting it's kitchen team, who serve amazing food all year round in the restaurant next door, who craft your wedding meal.

KIRKNEWTON HOUSE STABLE.

WEST LOTHIAN

Set in secluded walled gardens and parkland, Kirknewton House Stable gives you an expansive and beautiful outdoor space for you and your guests, and a modern yet rustic indoor venue for your ceremony & reception.

Location is another major selling point for this venue as it's just 25 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh. Other perks include the tables and chairs come with the venue, its guest size is flexible; a marquee can also be put up on the site, and there is ample space outside for games and drinks al fresco.

Weddings in converted barns or outhouses can be quite dark due to the style of the buildings they are set in, but that is not the case at Kirknewton House Stable! Light floods in from the wall of windows, making it a bright and airy space.

You really do feel like you've got your own private estate for the day, and the owners are so accommodating, we love to film here!

HARVEST MOON WEDDINGS.

EAST LOTHIAN

If you're a hippy/nature lover like me, then you'll agree there's nothing like a refreshing Scottish sea breeze to transport you away to your happy place. At Harvest Moon in East Lothian, you only have to travel 45 minutes from Edinburgh for said experience.

Here you have 2 options for your ceremony; get married (barefoot?) on the white sandy beach or amongst their magical treehouse site with views of Bass Rock.

If you're planning a weekend celebration then this venue is ideal as your guests can be accommodated in their spectacular treehouses or luxury tents for the full weekend. Not to forget about the Arabian Nights themed honeymoon tent complete with 4-poster bed!

This is a wedding venue where you can truly create some unique memories and cherish spending quality time with your friends and family.

COO CATHEDRAL.

ABERDEENSHIRE

Situated on the grounds of Aboyne Castle, Coo Cathedral in Aberdeenshire is a magical venue. A huge, bright & enchanting indoor space with endless opportunities to make it uniquely yours.

If it's a blank canvas wedding venue you are after, then this is a great choice.

The former cow barn retains many of it's original features, like the wooden beam ceiling, but it's no longer cows herding to the venue, rather future couples and their wedding parties who are flocking to the place.

Despite the fact that they only do weddings from April until October, there being very little information online and no (!) contact email address anywhere, the Coo Cathedral books out up to 2 years in advance.

But it's easy to see why, with space for up to 400 guests, access to the Barn from Thursday through to Monday for set up and take down, and no set finish time you can party on until your heart's content (party on Wayne, party on Garth)!
